What is the HKPAG?
Formed in 1993 by a group of dedicated and visionary Hong Kong performing artistes such as Jackie Chan, Anita Mui Yim-Fong, Michael Hui Koon-Man, Chow Yun-Fat,Maggie Cheung Man-Yuk and more, the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild (HKPAG) is the non-profit organization representing over 900 Hong Kong’s film and television actors, actresses, singers, stage performers and dubbing artistes.
How is the HKPAG organized?
HKPAG is funded by self-initiated media projects and donations and is run by theExecutive Committee of 21 representatives elected by members bi-annually.
What is HKPAG’s mission?
The four major objectives of HKPAG includes:
- strengthening bonds and communication amongst fellow performing artistes,
- improving professional standards and qualities,
- promoting and protecting performing artistes’ rights,
- and contributing to charity activities.
It is my greatest honor to serve as the President of the 13th Executive Committee for Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild. Success could only be achieved by tireless efforts and I am beyond grateful for all the dedication paid by our previous and existing Committee Members in every aspect.
Looking back, I am the first non-founding member President, which to be honest, puts a lot of pressure over my shoulders. However, at the same time, I also hope to bring another vision and explore more opportunities to the Guild.
Since 1993, HKPAG has been upholding four major goals: enhancing the communication between artistes, improving the standards of our profession, facilitating artists’ rights and interests and most importantly, participating in social welfare proactively. This year, not only do we remain committed to fulfill the objectives above, we aspire to do more and set our goals further.
“With great power comes great responsibility.” Artists are fortunate to be loved by many under the spotlight; so naturally, we are obligated to give back to the community. To achieve that, HKPAG has successfully applied for a non-profit charitable organization license and established HKPAG charity fund. In the years to come, we will work more efficiently with various charity organizations and exert our influence to the society. Apart from social welfare, we are also developing a mobile app that allows film companies, record labels and advertisers to explore local talents, hence, provide more job opportunities for our fellow members. We will continue to keep you updated as we implement these initiatives.
Although I am occupied by work in the coming year, I will endeavor to carry out my responsibilities whole-heartedly. To enrich the diversity of HKPAG, I have invited more young talents from all sectors of the entertainment business to join us. Many a little makes a mickle. I believe in times of change, we must stand united.
